The UGA Griffin Campus is dedicated to providing a safe and secure learning environment. It includes the main campus as well as several farms and a research garden. Most of the campus is in the City of Griffin or in Spalding County; however, one farm location is in Pike County. For this reason, multiple authorities are associated with the campus.
Many of the buildings on the Griffin Campus are public. To help maintain the safety of these building, please:
- Do not prop locked building doors open for others to use.
- Keep your personal belongings near you or locked in your trunk at all times. Don’t leave your belongings out and unattended while you’re in the building, and don’t leave belongings in plain sight in your car.
- Leave valuables at home. If you don’t need it for class, don’t bring it with you.
- Use a security officer, if available, to escort you to your vehicle at night.
The main campus has 24/7 campus security officers. You can reach them at any time by calling 770-412-3008. Our Senior Security Officer is located in the Support Services Building in room 102, but he can also be found patrolling campus in his golf cart or stationed at the SLC front desk. Call campus security for many reasons including:
- Suspicious Person
- Locked/Unlocked Doors
- Opening of Gates
- Medical Emergencies
- Escort to Vehicles
Student, staff and faculty are required to have UGA OneCard to access the campus gates and buildings on campus. The campus library and fitness center are only accessible with OneCard permission. Other locations, including the campus gates, require OneCard access after regular working hours and on weekends and holidays.
Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings
The Griffin Campus maintains a clear and effective process for issuing Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings.

UGA Alerts, Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings for the Griffin Campus are determined by the Director and a designee.
These decisions rely on guidance from the Office of Emergency Preparedness and notifications from UGA Police. Notifications are issued by the Griffin Campus Leadership Team using standardized messages adapted from the UGA Alert System.
A UGA Alert for the Griffin Campus would be issued in any situation where physical harm could take place; examples would include active shooter, weather emergency, facility/structure being unsafe to enter.
Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings are also sent via email. Depending on the situation an email would be issued for a suspicious person or activity, potential adverse weather, or other non-emergency situation where the campus needs to be informed.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up for community notifications through the Spalding County Emergency Management Agency.
Building Safety and Security Representatives (BSSRs) are assigned for each building and have procedures to follow for each situation. There is a monthly list update of primary and secondary individuals responsible for sending UGA Alerts.

UGA Student Affairs hosts a comprehensive well-being resource website at well-being.uga.edu. Students on the UGA Griffin Campus can access free digital mental health support options through the UGA Health Center website here. A resources flyer is also accessible through Your UGA Griffin 101 ELC Module (registered students only).
The Student Care and Outreach team is also available for any student experiencing complex, hardship, and/or unforeseen circumstances by providing individualized assistance and tailored interventions. Financial and housing resources are available for students experiencing hardships: Student Emergency Fund, Embark@UGA, and Graduate Student Emergency Fund. Missing Persons Notification Policy for Students Residing in Visitor Housing on the UGA Griffin Campus
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines regarding the handling of any residential student who is believed to be missing.
Scope
The policy applies to students residing in the UGA Griffin Campus Visitor Housing.
Notification Procedures
If a member of the University community has reason to believe that a student who resides in on-campus housing is missing, he or she must immediately notify the Griffin Police Department at 911 or 770-229-6450. The Griffin Police will make all appropriate notifications, determined by the circumstances of each individual case. Griffin Police will generate a missing person report and initiate an investigation.
For students living in the UGA Griffin Campus Visitor Housing, if reported missing, UGA Griffin Campus may notify the student’s Emergency Contact and Sponsoring Professor, if deemed necessary.
