The UGA Tifton Campus is dedicated to providing a safe and secure learning environment.
Please remember that many of the buildings on the Tifton Campus are public. To help maintain the safety of these building, please:
- Do not prop locked building doors open for others to use.
- Keep your personal belongings near you or locked in your trunk at all times. Don’t leave your belongings out and unattended while you’re in the building, and don’t leave belongings in plain sight in your car.
- Leave valuables at home. If you don’t need it for class, don’t bring it with you.
Access control on campus is managed by both the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) and Office of Information Technology and Facilities Management Operations. Security cameras are overseen by OIT lead, Vickie Garrick, with limited access provided to on-site faculty and staff, while UGA Police maintain full access.
Door locks and alarms are managed by Facilities Coordinator Kurt Seigler. Primary buildings are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and secondary buildings open only when actively used. Afterhours access is permitted for UGA research, Extension, and teaching faculty, staff, and students.
Access control policies are consistent campuswide, designated OIT leads and Facilities Coordinators manage building schedules, and access control, including after-hours access to designated faculty, staff and students.
Future Farmstead housing accommodates up to four graduate students. Access to the facility is controlled through continuously locked doors with electronic key access.

The Tifton Campus maintains a clear and effective process for issuing Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings.

Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings for the Tifton Campus are determined by Facilities Coordinator, Campus Safety Coordinator, and Assistant Dean.
These decisions rely on guidance from the Office of Emergency Preparedness and notifications from UGA Police. Notifications are issued by the Tifton campus leadership team using standardized messages adapted from the UGA Alert System.
A UGA Alert for the Tifton Campus would be issued in any situation where physical harm could take place as deemed necessary by campus officials. Examples include active shooter situations, weather emergencies, and facility/structure being unsafe to enter.
Emergency Notifications and Timely Warnings are also sent via email. Depending on the situation an email would be issued for a suspicious person or activity, potential adverse weather, or other non-emergency situation where the campus needs to be informed.

The Tifton Campus manages student crises through BARC, with concerning or problematic behavior assessed by Barry Croom for undergraduates, Cristiani Pilon for graduate students, and Academic Coordinator, Lisa Wimberly.
UGA Student Affairs hosts a comprehensive well-being resource website at well-being.uga.edu. Students on the Tifton Campus can access free digital mental health support options through the UGA Health Center website at https:// healthcenter.uga.edu/digital-mental-health-resources/.
The Student Care and Outreach team is also available for any student experiencing complex, hardship, and/or unforeseen circumstances by providing individualized assistance and tailored interventions. Financial and housing resources are available for students experiencing hardships: Student Emergency Fund, Embark@UGA, and Graduate Student Emergency Fund.

Additional Resources
Safety training is coordinated annually by the Building Safety and Security Representative, with all local UGA faculty and staff invited to participate.
Fire safety responsibilities are held by UGA’s Fire Safety office and met by required inspections, including extinguisher and sprinkler testing, are performed by FMO contracted services.
Missing Person Policy
Missing person procedures for Future Farmstead require immediate notification to ABAC Police, and the Director or Dean and a designee, and OIT lead, Vickie Garrick.
The campus follows U.S. Department of Education guidance, including the 24-hour rule. Students are informed that their contact information is kept confidential, shared only with authorized officials, and may be disclosed to law enforcement in a missing person investigation. No individuals under 18 years of age reside in the Future Farmstead.
Students are also informed that the institution will notify local law enforcement within 24 hours once a missing person determination is made, unless law enforcement was the first to make that determination.
